metallica promo shot thrash hits

Last night, Metallica appeared on BBC2’s The Culture Show. The whole band was interviewed by former metaller Verity Sharp.

A quarter of the BBC2 show was dedicated to documenting the thrash metal legends in Bergen, Norway on 16 July 2008 before playing a sold-out show to 20,000 Scandinavian metallers. Wish you were there?

James Hetfield is interviewed about the new album,Death Magnetic and the band is shown backstage, swearing a lot. They also discuss Hetfield and Lars Ulrich’s acrimonious, love-hate relationship as well as still creating ‘angry music’ in their mid-40s.

Read the website’s synopsis:

“Verity Sharp gets behind the scenes access to rock behemoths Metallica on tour in Norway. Having sold close to 100 million albums, Metallica are probably the biggest and most influential heavy metal band ever, and are now about to release their long-awaited ninth studio album.

Verity joins the band in Bergen, sitting in on the late night rehearsals and pre-gig rituals. Featuring interviews with lead singer James Hetfield, the ultimate reformed rocker, and Lars Ulrich, drummer and fellow founder of the band, Verity turns the volume up to 11 in this revealing rockumentary of a unique band.”

You can watch Verity Sharp documenting Metallica on The Culture Show on the fantastic BBC iPlayer.
