Alive on the Other Side exposes Silverlake rockers My Ruin as being very much on top of their game. Sounding more powerful than ever, the four-piece have gone from strength to strength over the years.

Vocalist Tairrie B commands the attention of every last person in the room and invariably chews them up and spits them out, her brutal screams resounding in their ears as they scramble towards the merch booth to pick up their very own piece of rock history.

Recently being recognised by Guitar Player Magazine as being one of the top 40 underrated guitarists, Mick Murphy’s unique but familiar guitar sound is, and always will be, implicitly essential to My Ruin. Bass player Chris Lisee’s tight and consistent bass perfectly compliments Mick’s guitar and holds it’s own amidst the pounding drums.

A guest on the Tell Your God Tour, Marcello Palomino hasn’t played with Tairrie since the Manhole days in the late ’90s, and to highlight this fact, a cover of the song ‘Hypocrite’ is lapped-up by the responsive audience.

Never missing the chance to show what they can do as a band and every time gaining more fans as only real talent can, Alive on the Other Side is a documentation of this real talent in action.

Recorded in Leeds Rio’s in January 2008, it proves to be an album of surprises. Whilst being both stylistically infallible and excitingly rough-and-ready, it’s difficult to comprehend such polarity, but the real surprise comes with the two-hour DVD.

An up-close and personal self-shot tour diary of interviews, photo shoots, personal backstage banter and even a birthday party, the DVD is a warm and welcome change from the usual band DVDs rushed out by record companies hoping to make a quick buck.

This heartfelt gift to the fans not only shows the band’s dedication to their fans but also their commitment to the music that they make.
