2008 into 2009: Amon Amarth

With their Viking drinking horns on their hips and majestic melodic metal walloping our ears, Amon Amarth were a definite highlight of the Unholy Alliance III tour. Drummer, Fredrik Andersson talks us through his year.

What was your highlight of 2008?
Definitely going to Australia for the first time!

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
Most fresh in my memory must be the hangover I had the other day after a party.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
Wintersun [Finnish folk metallers], for not releasing their album until next year.

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
AC/DC of course… Even if it’s maybe not really a comeback.

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Right now, going to Russia for the first time in January.

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
Evocation.

What do you want for Christmas?
A nice Swedish traditional Smorgasbord! (Which is exactly what I’ll have too).

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
Oh there’s only one girl I want to get under there, she knows who she is.

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
In Bochum, Germany, playing the complete Versus The World album!

Amon Amarth are headlining the London Kentish Town Forum on 09 March 2009 with Obituary in support. That’s gonna be quite a good show.
