Welsh metallers, Anterior might be named after a cruciate ligament but that doesn’t matter to us. Hairy frontman, Luke Davies talks about burning vans, fisting whole insurance companies and Tom Jones singing Slipknot covers…
What was your highlight of 2008?
There was quite a few highlights but if I was tied down to my favourite it was probably playing with Children of Bodom on their small UK tour – huge venues with huge great crowds. It was a great few days.
What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
We had a pretty savage tour van fire this summer, which was quite bad. The van was completely torched, and me and Steve (guitarist) were trapped in the back whilst the front was a pure raging inferno! Anyways we all got out fine, but there was some complications with the insurance company and it turned out that our insurance was void for some god awful mix up with the shit oad of red tape that goes with insurance companies. But it weren’t too bad – the support band picked us up and we still managed to do the show in the night. Several shots of whiskey and about ten bottles of Bud can settle your nerves quite well, haha.
Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
Our fucking insurance company! I’d love to have them all fisted! Haha!
Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
I have to be honest that I was unimpressed with Metallica’s effort, and amazingly impressed with Guns N’ Roses. I’m not a huge G’n’R fan at all so I was totally surprised how much I like the new album, and being a big Metallica fan it was hard to admit to everyone that I thought that most of the new songs sounded like nonsense. AC/DC’s Black Ice isn’t groundbreaking, however it’s exactly what AC/DC do best and I enjoyed it all the same. Well done!
What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Our new album release, which will hopefully be out in the summer, and getting back on the road after this break we’ve all had. I seriously enjoy touring and just getting out to different countries and meeting new people. And getting drunk with complete strangers.
What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
It without doubt should be Evergrey! They are one of my favourite bands and never seem to get any recognition! Such an underrated but seriously talented bunch shouldn’t go unnoticed. You’ll probably be hearing a lot from Sylosis and Malefice this coming year too. Keep your ears open.
What do you want for Christmas?
A good hiding, and anything by Wumpscut. Oh and a Blackout t-shirt!
Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
My Girlfriend! With Melinda Messenger with Tom Jones singing Slipknot covers, now that’d be a damn fine Christmas.
Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
Probably DJing with my friends in a club, downing booze and generally being merry! Merry xxxxmas all!
