2008 into 2009: Architects

So many bands we’ve been speaking to have been tipping Architects to have a massive year in 2009 with their third album, Hollow Crown. We speak to guitarist, Tom Searle about 2008.

What was your highlight of 2008?
Signing to Century Media, finishing our new album and touring Europe on the Never Say Die tour – especially the London date at the Forum, which was the best show we’ve ever played as a band!

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
There’s been some pretty rough times this year, but I’d have to say that the trailer park we stayed in one night in nowheresville, USA was a particular low point.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
I dunno, I shouldn’t promote any sort of violence against anyone! But I wouldn’t mind seeing Axl Rose get a beating. Obviously I’ve never met the guy but, Jesus, he just looks like a cunt.

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
I’ll go with Metallica because, of the three, thats the only record I’ve heard and its not too bad, plus I went to see them in London a few months back and throughly enjoyed it.

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Releasing our album Hollow Crown We recorded it in July so its been quite a wait to get it out, I’m super excited to see what everyone thinks, I actually quite enjoy the tension of the ‘make or break’ kind of vibe.

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
Theres a few actually! The Ghost of a Thousand have a new record on its way – I’ve not heard it yet but its bound to be a masterpiece like the last one, and aside from them (who loads of people already know about anyway) I’ll go with – A Textbook Tragedy, Lower Than Atlantis and the Eyes Of A Traitor.

What do you want for Christmas?
I already got my Christmas present – a TV… Exciting. I’m probably supposed to say booze or a guitar or something, right?

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
Alex Dean, our bass player – fuck the mistletoe actually, I’ll just force him into it.

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
Up in Sheffield actually, partying with our friends in Bring me the Horizon! Woo.
