2008 into 2009: Funeral For A Friend

After furrowing the independent trail in 2008, Funeral for a Friend have much to be proud of. We caught up with guitarist Darran Smith (far left) about getting older but staying debaucherous and keeping his teeth.

What was your highlight of 2008?
The highlight of 2008 was getting our first album Memory and Humanity out on our own record label, Join Us Records.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
Worst thing that happened was probably me getting a year older, haha.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
I guess the kickin should go to Axl Rose, I reckon. He kept us waiting all this for his new record and it definitely wasn’t worth the wait!

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
Best comeback was AC/DC for me. Black Ice is such a strong record, and has been worth the wait. It’s arguably one of their best since Back in Black, I’d go as far as to say!

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Looking forward to lots more touring and the chance to see some more incredible places around the world whilst doing that!

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
A band from Wales called Attack! Attack!. Some people already know about them but everyone should cos they write amazing hook-filled songs and are awesome live!

What do you want for Christmas?
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth… Not really – my teeth are fine, haha. Just happiness I guess!

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
The only person I want under the mistletoe is my lady. Over and over again!

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
On New Year’s Eve, I imagine I’ll be in some debaucherous, hedonistic party/orgy to enter into the New Year in style!
