2008 into 2009: Gama Bomb

Gama Bomb might well be the best thrashers to come out of Ireland… ever. Joe McGuigan is the self-proclaimed “leader of the futuristic warriors hell-bent on destroying Fightstar.” He is also the bassist of the gumby troupe.

What was your highlight of 2008?
Releasing our ace new tape, Citizen Brain and doing over 60 shows in Europe. Touring with Exodus and shoving petrol-covered rags down the gullet of non-believers.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
Errrm, doing over 60 shows in Europe. Nah, nothing bad has happened to the band – it’s been an amazing year. Me? I think I hit my wee toe off the door last month.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
In the world of metal? Same people as last year: poseurs, backstabbers, Nazis, Metallica fans, sceptics, infiltrators, non-Robocop fans, ghosts, racist metal and the people responsible for changing Coco Pops to Choco Krispies in Spain.

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’Roses?
I’d like to say G’n’R but its DC isn’t it?

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Going to see AC/DC, touring with Overkill and Exodus, doing the fests, the new George Romero zombie movie, Priest Feast and getting free stuff.

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
I don’t know if people will find out about them but Visceral Attack and AMOK – two ace thrash bands from Ireland and Scotland. Ooh, and Enforcer and Cauldron.

What do you want for Christmas?
Same thing every thrash fan wants: Rust In Peace – Part 2 and a gigantic, mirrored silver Flying V covered in Van Halen logos.

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
Dave Mustaine.

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
At the carry-out. Drinking.BEER!
