2008 into 2009: Outcry Collective

December 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The latest signings to Visible Noise, the trailblazers of British heavy music, are Outcry Collective. Lonely-sounding frontman, Steve Sitkowski discusses torture techniques and threesomes. Not at the same time, obviously.

What was your highlight of 2008?
I’m just gonna go with the first thing that came into my head - just like Dan Ackroyd at the end of Ghostbusters. We played at The Old Blue Last this year and from what I remember, it was awesome. We’ve played London a lot but that one stuck out in my head. No technical difficulties, no fights, no dickheads… ahhh, bliss.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
That’s an easy one - losing a band member.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
All of the people that broke into our van at separate times on tour. I hope that they fall into a bath of acid then have to do a hundred press-ups. Then I’d set them on fire and then when I put out the fire THEN I’d give them a good kicking! Oh and someone else I know that doesn’t deserve to be named but is just a total dick.

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
Hahaha. Next question. HEY I’M YOUR LIFE I’M YOUR PAPA BEAR! Fuck it - I’ll say Metallica. I had some early stuff playing on my stereo the other day. For the record my favourite Metallica album is St Anger and I don’t care what anyone else thinks about that.

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Now that we’ve changed labels at the same time as making the album I’d like to think that it will coincide with a lot of touring. Festival season will be coming upon us so I might have to sleep with someone in order to get on that Reading bill and for the record I’ll do that. We’ve yet to go to Ireland or Europe and eventually I want to go further away to the states or in a dream world Australia coz I’ve never been. I hear the locals know how to rock out with style and I wanna see some sharks.

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
The Computers. That was a hard choice because I’ve seen some sick bands. Man this is always awkward. - That band turns me into a fourteen-year-old girl with a crush. I saw them play 20-odd times this year and I got something different out of it every time. They have everything I personally look for in a band and they know that. They put out You Can’t Hide From The Computers this year and it’s always on in my car. Plus, if you listen really carefully, I do a little screaming on it. It won’t be long ’til they blow up and when they do I’m gonna quit this band and sell their merch.

What do you want for Christmas?
For it to be the last Christmas that I will ever spend alone. I’m gonna meet my dream girl and leave everything behind and we’re going to dance and sing and drink in the middle of the day on the beach and we will be married and sail the world on love and YOU WON’T BE INVITED! Anyone interested can find me in the personals. Actually the hell with that I want Gears of War 2 or Guitar Hero 4. Or Gears of the Rock Guitar Hero 4. I want lot more but I think these are meant to be one-word answers.

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
Hahaha that sounds so dirty. Um… a threesome.

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
Crying by myself in a bath trying to call absolutely anyone, with a bottle of Jack in one hand and a picture of an ex in the other. Actually I forgot - I have made plans to party in Southampton - my favourite place in England.

[...] Events Did someone go and make Leeds cool when we weren’t paying attention? There’s a shitload going off there in the next four weeks, the biggest of course being the Slam Dunk Festival, which take over Leeds University on May 24 for some serious punk action. For the face-numbingly low price of £21 (+ the usual fees), over 30 bands are going to rock their shit across six stages. Six bloody stages? At that price? It’s still a couple of weeks away and we’re already so impressed we nearly shat ourselves. For those lucky enough to be attending, make sure you catch Thrash Hits’ picks from the impressive line-up: The Ghost Of A Thousand, Kids In Glass Houses, Random Hand, Attack! Attack! and Outcry Collective. [...]
