2008 into 2009: The Plight

Hailing from Leeds, weighing in at a combined weight of some are hard rockers, The Plight. Bassist, Sean Loughlin took some time out to talk about his year in rock ‘n’ roll.

the plight press shot visible noise thrash hits

What was your highlight of 2008?
Breaking the speed limit on my bike, signing on and touring with Converge (in that order).

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
The realisation that this is it and there’s nothing more and the fact that The Hellacopters split up.

Who in 2008 deserves a good kicking?
Scouting for MOTHERFUCKING Girls ’til the end of time…

Who had the best comeback: Metallica, AC/DC, or Guns N’ Roses?
While Metallica arguably had the most at stake and while they definitely have made a substantial addition to their back catalogue it doesn’t feel like much of a ‘comeback’ as such, more just a return to their roots. On the other hand The Chinese Democracy was going be popular even in places like The Galapagos Islands regardless of its quality of tuneage. For me, G’n’R have had that many false starts it was only the PR and hype that got people riled up enough to give a shit this time around, so props should go to their press team, not the band in the comeback stakes. AC/DC never went away in the first place – they had their comeback in the ‘90s; so my head says Metallica but my heart says AC/DC…

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
Touring and The Jesus Lizard reunion at ATP.

What band should everyone find out about in 2009?
Young Widows, The Arteries, Johnny Pissflap and the Fanny Farts.

What do you want for Christmas?
Sunn 0)))‘s amps and Hungry Hippos.

Who do you want to get under the mistletoe?
Nicola from Girls Aloud, Carol Vorderman and Konnie Huq all at once.

Where will you be on New Year’s Eve?
Sitting in a bath holding a toaster plugged into the mains in my mum’s wedding dress.
