In addition to the rumoured bands appearing based on the traditional crossover with the Rock AM Ring line-up, a new rumour has surfaced tipping electro-mentalists, The Prodigy, as one of the headliners for Download Festival in 2009.
The rumour emerged from the often-correct VirtualFestivals.com, which has in the past nailed the line-ups for Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Download and many other festivals many months before any ‘official’ announcements. At present, there’s no official word from either The Prodigy or Download’s promoters, Live Nation as to whether the rumours are true.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time The Prodigy have played Download – in 2006 the group headlined the second stage and blew away Guns N’ Roses’ miserable Main Stage spectacle. The furious reception at Download 2008 for their would-be rivals, Pendulum, and with a new album, Invaders Must Die, out on 2 March 2009, surely Keith Flint & co.’s return to Donnington should be a shoe-in?
