What they’re saying
Californian deathcore mob, Suicide Silence, have been plotting the follow-up to 2007’s The Cleansing for quite some time. Having been writing since mid-2008, the band are only now entering the studio to start recording.
In an interview in September with Music Towers, frontman Mitch Lucker had this to say:
Suicide Silence can always do better, and this next record is going to blow away The Cleansing by far. Heavy metal is always gonna be around – it’s just how big we’re gonna take, how big bands like us and other bands can push it, push it to the limit. There’s no roof on metal – you can just keep going.
Thrash Hits verdict
Uh-oh. Deathcore. But seriously, put aside any elitish notions of scorn regarding “scene-metal” – Suicide Silence’s debut was the fasting-selling debut released on Century Media ever, and the follow up has the potential to do even better. 2009 is going to determine if Suicide Silence are the real deal, or whether they’re just some over-excited tattoos that learnt how to scream.
One new track, ‘Vile Creation’, started popping up in the band’s setlist in their final tour of last year, but whether or not it’s made the final tracklist of the new album is still unknown.
