Type this band into Google and you’ll get a classic Western movie starring Jack Bauer. Luckily, listening to Young Guns won’t result in one of the worst days of your life. We talked to vocalist, Gustav about why.
How did you meet?
The short version is that all the guys knew each other ‘cos they grew up in the same area and played in bands and shit, and John and Fraser are brothers. I met John through a mutual friend about five years ago and ended up joining a band that John, Fraser and Ben were already in and it just went from there.
What made you want to start a band?
I always wanted to start a band but where I grew up there just wasn’t the chance, man. When I met the guys and they asked, I borrowed some gear and got involved. When that all ended we just started another. Not being in a band wasn’t even an option.
Which band would you love to support?
I could give some huge band or whatever but I’m going to go with a band called Over It from the states just ‘cos they were a big influence on our early days.
What bands do you consider as part of your scene or as your peers?
I don’t really think we are a part of any scene to be honest, musically speaking anyway, but we’re lucky enough to be friends with some great bands like Deaf Havana, Outcry Collective, Jett Black and the WATO boys.
What the funniest thing that’s happened to you on tour?
Man every day with our rhythm section is fucking hilarious – I’ve never met such intensely weird human beings.
‘In The Night’, the debut single from Young Guns was released on 02 February 2009 and an EP is planned for later in the spring. Check their tourdates on Myspace.com/YoungGuns.
