Clutch self-confirm Download Festival appearance?

March 9th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Well, this is a turn-up for the books – the kings of balls-out party-blues, Clutch, have self-confirmed an appearance on the Sunday of this year’s Download Festival via their MySpace page, . Why is this a surprise? Because we’d heard hints from the heavy metal rumour mill that the band were a shoe-in for the new boy on the block – and Download’s biggest rival – Sonisphere Festival.

There’s no official word from either festival yet if the Maryland boogie overlords have officially made the line-up for Donington or Knebworth, but as anyone that’s caught Clutch play live before will tell you, there’s no better band to knock back some beers to with your mates in the middle of a hot afternoon. Bring on the summer!

Download Festival 2009 takes place at Donington Park between August 12-14, with Sonisphere Festival 2009 taking place at Knebworth on August 01-02.

They were the best band of DL 2006, and if this is true, its great to have them back. Never even heard about any Sonisphere rumour, to be honest. While Sonisphere would be a major opportunity for them, I somehow think they’d be wasted – they’ve been overlooked by the major audience for many years. At least at Download you can be guaranteed they’ll put on a storming performance in front of a crowd who actually give a damn – as all those who witnessed them in ‘06 will surely agree!
