With a new album and two-month tour of Europe and the UK kicking off next month, things are about to get bust for St Albans hardcore mob, Your Demise. We had words with their vocalist, George Noble before things got too busy.

From: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Sounds like: Sick Of It All, Our Time Down Here, Deaf Havana

How did you meet?
I started the band about 5 years ago with a load of different dudes, the band’s had a lot of line-up changes since then. I met Stu [Paice, guitar] in HMV where he worked when I was looking for a Slapshot CD! All past members have been local crew or good mates. It’s worked out real well for us that we’re all pals.
What made you want to start a band?
I desperately wanted to make something of the St Albans hardcore scene. It was dead after flourishing pretty hard, which was cool for a while till it burnt out. Then I thought ‘why not start a band?’, so I did with a mate of mine, Rob Kiff, who started it all for me in Flatline, the band that did it for me.
How did growing up in St Albans influence you or affect your sound?
As I say, Flatline were a real kick in the teeth, a good wake up to hardcore locally. We had a real tight scene where everyone was friends and shared music and records and such. I’d get to hear a shedload of bands. Plus we’re just down the road from London, Watford, Milton Keynes…Birmingham’s not far, and neither is Canterbury. We’re lucky enough to live close to a hell of a lot of Hardcore scenes, so we got to see tonnes of US and European bands, but more importantly a lot of UKHC.
In such a crowded scene as hardcore, how do you make yourselves stand out?
Listen to The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays loads! I think you just make your shit happen, and if it’s real and you’re out there having a fucking good time then no one can say shit to you – you have to do it for yourself or it’s just a killer. It’s what’s broken some of the best hardcore bands up. You’ve got to be having a good time and going fucking wild out there, writing good shit, touring and acting like a fucking fool.
With which band would your dream support slot be?
Either Oasis or The Stone Roses. I’d love to support some DJs like Noisia or Goldie or something.
What bands do you consider to be your peers?
Run, Pay No Respect, Architects.

You’re gearing up for your biggest headline tour to date. How are you preparing?
Working fuck loads to pay off a student loan, for a course I didn’t fucking do! We’re just waiting for it eager and ready to get the fuck on it, and come out the other end to do something else.
What’s the best show you’ve played?
Probably our videoshoot the other night. But in honesty it’s most likely the record release show for Blood Stays on The Blade at The Underworld.
Were you worried about “second album syndrome” at all? How did you approach this record differently from your self-funded album?
We have re-written ourselves with this record, and there is not one thing I don’t like about it. We’ve snuck some drum’n'bass tracks onto it that mates have produced, and we’re looking to just fucking kill with it to be honest.
What other new band should everyone find out about?
Pay No Respect, trust me.
