The mighty Metallica played a “secret” show on Friday, 20 March 2009 at Stubbs in Austin, Texas as part of a Guitar Hero launch at South by Southwest.
1. It was awesome!
2. We got some video!
Just like when the thrash legends – listed on the official SXSW schedule as a metal band called Volsung from Somewhere, Norway – played in a tent at Download Festival 2003, it was an open secret that they were playing and, needless to say, there was a hefty throng assembled.
‘Tallica hit the stage just before 10pm after their trademark intro music of ‘The Ecstasy Of Gold’ spilled out into Austin, and played a 90-minute set of what Hetfield called, “the worst-kept secret in rock and roll”.
