Which festivals are you going to this summer?

limp bizkit 2009 wes borland fres durst thrash hits

Both of the major heavy music festivals have announced all of their headliners now. Sonisphere Festival came straight out with Metallica and Linkin Park while the acts appearing at Download Festival 2009 were dripfed to us much more slowly.

Claiming Slipknot, Def Leppard and Faith No More as headliners, with the mighty, reformed Limp Bizkit (pictured) also hitting the stage, Download is looking good. Sonisphere, however, is an unknown quantity but has the strong names of Lamb Of God, Machine Head and Mastodon on the undercard.

Just because the two big ones are being hyped up beyond all recognition, Bloodstock Festival 2009 should not be forgotten. With Amon Amarth, Satyricon, Arch Enemy and Carcass on their bill, it’s a metal force to be reckoned with.

Does this all mean that Reading & Leeds are left with no metal on the Main Stage? Will Metallica ever headline the event formerly known as Reading Rock again? Who knows. Tell us where you’re planning on going this summer.

    Also this year already:
    Katatonia
    Sabaton
    Million Dollar Reload
    Battlelore
    Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
    Candlemass
    Gwar
    The Haunted
    Turisas
    Apocalyptica
    Pythia
    And of course Saxon

All aren't Black/Thrash or Death metal.
  • Flail
    @ Charlie.

Not big on your Bloodstock knowledge are you?

Every year people complain that there's not enough Black/Thrash/Death. It has in the past been very power metal orientated.
  • Charlie
    A PIT OF METAL FIRRREEEEE!!!!
  • Liam
What do Katatonia fall into then?
  • Charlie
I call Bloodstock 'boring' because the only genres it covers are in the field of Black Metal, Thrash Metal, and Death Metal (oh, and Saxon.)

I need a little more diversity with my lineups.
  • Raewyn
Remember Bloodstock's line-up is nowhere near done before you go commenting on it's 'boringness'

Even so it's the best one by far.

    at mikki ??!?!

"None of the festivals mentioned are anywhere near extreme enough for me."

I think this chap might have issues.

Definitely Download. Line-up so far is the best for a few years. And it appears Clutch are self-confirmed - which is awesome if true.

Sonisphere looks like a rehash of previous Download line-ups - some good bands in there but otherwise bands I can catch for much less, and for longer, when they do their own tours.

Bloodstock - looked good at first but lately the announcements are getting a bit weak, and Arch Enemy are a terrible choice for co-headliner - for me, they are forever in the shadow of Carcass as it is without playing before the band they seem to be trying recreate. Might still go but will have to have stronger line-ups on the smaller stages to convince me.

Reading & Leeds isn't even on the radar any more.

    METULZZZZ.

But yeah, Download! Bloodstock's lineup is really boring, Sonisphere is too expensive for two days and R/L is impossible for me to get to.
  • Raz
Bloodstock is definitely the most metal!
  • Lexis
Bloodstock all the way, the best metal selection of all of the otheres
  • None of the festivals mentioned are anywhere near extreme enough for me.

You'll have to do better than to get me I'm afraid.
  • Stooshy
    Download, it's like way metal.
  • Bloodstock.

Sonisphere price is a rip off for two days.
Download line up is shit (apart from FNM).
Reading yet to announce line up

and neither sonisphere or download are doing day tickets at the moment. big let down.

bloodstock only £100 (inc camping) for 3 days, Great line up. BARGAIN!
  • Raz
I'm aiming at all four of them + either Wacken or Rock Am Ring.

    Ambitious? Of course!
