Future Hits 029: Steadlür

We can count on one hand the number of times Roadrunner Records has got it wrong when it comes to signing bands. That’s why we caught up with Philip Steadlür, lead singer and guitarist of American newcomers Steadlür for a chat

From: Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Sounds like: Skid Row, Motley Crue, Madina Lake

Thrash Hits verdict: We reckon that with their big choruses, classic guitar licks and clear ambition these boys are going to pick up a few fans on this trip to the UK and they’re going to do their damnedest to keep hold of every one of them. And it helps they’re dead sexy. It helps us, anyway. Errr…

How did you meet? You’re not actually all brothers are you.
No, we are not all biological brothers. Just me and Dallas (drums). Dallas and Daniel (bass) went to high school together and I lived with Tommy (lead guitar) in the city.

What made you want to start Steadlür?
Dallas and me had an itch that just needed to be scratched…haha!

What are your musical influences?
Thin Lizzy, Guns N’ Roses, Pantera, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foo Fighters, Weezer, original Skid Row, Failure, The Toadies… I could go on and on…

What has it been like living in Atlanta and how do you think it’s shaped your music?
We didn’t grow up in the city but we all have lived there for the last six or more years… It’s definitely helped inspire our music through life experiences: partying, trashing girls apartments, bar after bar after bar fights…!

With which band would your dream tour be?
Us opening for Foo Fighters, Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, “>Guns N’ Roses or DethKlok would be freaking amazing!

What bands do you consider as part of your scene or as your peers?
Our friends in The Poison Arrows, Stonerider, Heaven’s Basement or The Last Vegas. Basically, bands that kick it with us and that don’t play pussy music!

What marks you out as different to other bands around at the moment?
Well, for our musical style and genre we are quite young and we aren’t into wearing bell bottoms or baggy ass jeans. We try to keep our music driving and sleazy, but also keep our own sense of style and catchiness.

So far, what has been the best thing about being in a band?
Touring and making our first record. And the free beer isn’t bad.

You’re playing your first UK shows and the Download Festival soon. What are you looking forward to the most about being in the UK?
Walking off the airplane! Haha! We really can’t wait to see everything, meet our UK label and rock some faces.

What’s the best or funniest show you’ve played?
We played at a fashion show that was held in a church and Daniel and Tommy kept falling over on stage due to the steps and unbalanced floor.

What have you got planned for the future?
TOUR TOUR TOUR – and keep on writing.

What other band should everyone find out about?
People might already know of these guys but I love them… The Living Things. Check them out!!

Tell us a joke.
If Gene Simmons was a dinosaur, what kind of dinosaur would he be? A Lickalotapuss! That’s all I got… Sorry. I’m not sorry! Haha!
