After making our splash pages for Download Festival 2009 and Sonisphere Festival 2009, we thought we’d stick with tradition and do another for Bloodstock Open Air 2009. We’re here at Catton Hall for three days and we’re going to be interviewing, photographing and generally just looking at bands all weekend. We’ll make stuff too. Come and look at it all.

• Municipal Waste failed to break the world record for ‘Most Crowdsurfers In A Single Song’.
• Festival attendees have apparently started practicing bizarre rituals that involve dancing in a circle, throwing cutley at courgettes, and bundling people seemingly at random.
• According to Michael Amott from Arch Enemy/Carcass, Snakes’n'Barrels aren’t returning in the new series of Metalocalypse. And he should know – he provided one of their voices.
• Johnny Doom is more metal than most rockstars.
• Number of bands asking Thrash Hits for drugs: 3. Number of bands offering Thrash Hits drugs: 1. Number of bands Thrash Hits has supplied drugs to/obtained drugs from: 0. We’re good boys.
• Cradle Of Filth cut their set short by ten minutes when someone from the crowd hit guitarist Paul Allender with a thrown object. Thanks for that, you missle-throwing dickhead.
• Nicholas Barker, ex-Cradle of Filth drummer, was spotted shaking his head during his former band’s set, and muttering “you’re doing it wrong”.
• A member of Blind Guardian was seen enjoying the ample hospitality offered by one of the band’s many fans in a tent backstage. If the canvas is rocking, don’t come a-knocking.
• Equilibrium were so excited to be talking to Thrash Hits that they literally spilt beer all over themselves.
• Like ED-209 from Robocop, Frost from Satyricon is a single-minded killing machine that doesn’t easily go up stairs.
