Metal Mark in Atlanta: slightly less drunk this month

What’s going on metal people! There have not been many shows coming through the Atlanta area since the Mayhem Festival, but there have been a few, and of course I was there!

I got to host my first ever local show at the beginning of August. Tons of great local bands from Atlanta were on the bill including Ingrain, Prime Mover, Caustic Thought, and The Bone Church. That show was full of good bands, tons of fans, and of course, tons of PBR! Everyone had a blast and we are already planning the next one.

The Thrash and Burn tour rolled through Atlanta a few days later. This bill was a lot more diverse than last year’s Thrash and Burn tour, and it was a lot worse in my mind. Luckily, Thy Will Be Done, Despised Icon, and DevilDriver were on the bill. All of the other bands were hardcore, and ninjas were everywhere in the pit.

Once DevilDriver hit the stage, the dancers left, and the pits erupted in a classic metal pit. I was lucky enough to sit down with Despised Icon and DevilDriver before the show to grab some interviews. I interviewed Jeff from DevilDriver on their tour bus and it was a blast hanging out with the whole band before the show. We shared many beers throughout the night and it was a blurry taxi ride home.

The best show of August was the legendary Judas Priest. I haven’t seen the mighty Priest in over six years so I was super excited for this show. After a few hours of tailgating with cold beers and some liquor, we headed into the venue as the lights went out for JP. They played the album British Steel from start to finish and then broke out some classic hits.

My favorite moments were the songs ‘Rapid Fire’, ‘The Ripper’, ‘Grinder’ and ‘Victim of Changes’. After over 30 years in the metal world, they still put on a show better than most. Now I pray to the metal gods that Iron Maiden will come back to Atlanta before I die!

So for CDs to be on the lookout for in September, there are tons! New CD’s from The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, Dethklok, Megadeth, Shadows Fall, Evile, Revocation, Insomnium, Despised Icon, and more! So much metal for your head, your ears may be ripped off once a day!

August will be mighty busy for this drunken idiot. Be on the lookout next time for live reports from DOWN, Gojira, and Satyricon. I also am lucky enough to have a phone call with the legendary Max Cavalera! Hopefully I can keep my cool, because Max is truly an idol of mine. So interviews with Gojira and Max Cavalera will be on their way at SkullsNBones.com soon!

‘Til next time – Drink Up And Raise The Horns!
