Gallows are still slogging it all over the world to help promote their awesome album, Grey Britain. At the moment they’re in the USA with AFI so we thought we’d drop guitarist, Laurent Barnard a line to see how he’s doing.
I actually really like it. Though it’s not for too long – we get to stay in hotels and have showers in the morning. I’m not a fan of bus bunks. However, on the negative side we have to leave as soon as the show is over which means no partying for us.
We had an epic drive from Hampton Beach to Richmond, Virginia. As we started our journey it was snowing bad and cars in front of us were sliding all over the place. Being in a van with a trailer, we really were fearing for our safety.
We headlined a show in Long Island. We have a tonne of friends from the area and not only that, I Hate Our Freedom from Brooklyn opened the show who are people I always see when I’m in NYC. After the show myself, Stu and the rest of the bands all went to Sal from The Sleeping‘s bar. I showed up with no money and left with no memory of what happened. Stories have come in thick and fast and it sounded like I had a good time. This event is what sparked the non-drinking!
Well, I’m never hungover for starters and it’s saving me a heap of money as I’m not getting cabs to and from random bars/parties/clubs/hotels etc. Touring in a van requires some self discipline and changing your diet definitely helps in these conditions.
I’ve eaten at pretty much every chain of restaurant and fast food in the States. There’s not much when you’re constantly on the road. One place I have discovered is Chick-Fil-A. It’s run by Christians and closed on Sundays but the food, though it’s fast food, is good. I’d start believing in God if I knew for sure there was a Chick-Fil-A in heaven!
Funny you should ask! Last night he proposed to his girlfriend on stage before we played In ‘The Belly Of A Shark’. They celebrated by spending 8 hours in the van driving from Richmond, VA to NYC through the night. Oh the romance!
It’s not a show it’s a party. Big difference! We’ve played a few VICE nights and our first time was supporting Fucked Up at the Old Blue Last end of 2006. We’ve kept close with the guys there and their parties are always a good time! Simple as that, we’ll probably end up playing at some un-godly hour!?!
Absolutely flattered. I hear their next single is called Ghost Of A Thousand.
As you might’ve guessed his death didn’t quite get the same reaction as Michael Jackson. In fact, it didn’t get any kind of reaction at all. Saw someone tweet about it and that’s how I know.
