Vice Magazine Heavy Metal Thrash Hits

Say what you like about the hipster magazine-lifestyle-brand-thing Vice, but they’re one of the few people making interesting documentaries about metal as it is today. Mainstream broadcasters can’t seem to get past making documentaries about metal in the 70s and 80s – Vice is all about inspired metal film-making on the here and now.

Not only was Vice behind the eye-opening Heavy Metal in Bahgdad, but also True Norwegian Black Metal. Now they’ve gone a step further with the top-notch Heavy Metal Roadshow, a four-part series where Iano Dovi travels the globe, talking to some of the people shaping the direction of metal today. And you know what? It’s pretty damn good.

Dovi doesn’t just trundle around pandering to all the usual talking heads that filmmakers who know nothing about metal go to when they need someone to provide a soundbite – he’s speaking to people Who Know Their Shit. We particularly like the bits where he chats to our friends over at Terrorizer magazine. Those guys live for metal the way we live for metal.

We like it when people we know are in Serious Videos About Metal. When they’re being interviewed we can’t help but think “Ha! We’ve seen you roll around drunk and vomiting in the gutters”. Oh yes, its nothing but glamour here in the metal scene of London town.

Want to see more? Well, the whole thing is available to watch for free over on the VBS website. That’s your afternoon taken care of right there.
