Final Thought for Friday: listen to Bad For Lazarus

We maike no secret that we’re a little bit soft in the head and hard in the trousers when it comes to all things Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster here at Thrash Hits. Which is why we reckon you also ought to be listening to Bad For Lazarus, the band led by the one-time EMBLD-guitarist, Rich Fownes.

Fownes also has the somewhat dubious honour of being the shortest-serving member of Nine Inch Nails, joining the band as bassist after Jeordie “Twiggy Ramirez” White left, only to unceremoniously find himself dropped by Trent Reznor before making a single public appearance with the band. Ouch.

Anyway, enough crowing on about the past – we’re here to big up the future. Specifically, ‘Old Rats on a New Ship’, the new single by Bad For Lazarus that’s out later this month. Seriously, go take a butcher’s at the video down below.

Actually, another reason why you ought to seek ‘Old Rats on a New Ship’ when it’s released on Shit Chic Records on November 30 is the b-side, ‘Kempton Animals’. For a long time this track was part of Eighties Matchbox’s live set, but it seems Fownes took the track with him when he left the Brighton mentalists. It’s a demented Tom-Waits-sexing-up-a-Hammond-Organ bastard of a track, and if that’s not enough to convince you that you need to hear it, then you’re clearly more than a little bit thick. Just sayin’.
