II: The Reign OF Darkness

What they’re saying
In a recent interview with Metal Hammer magazine, frontman Steve Regan described the album thus:
“The concept behind the album is blindness within humanity, in the sense of blind faith and how we are just looking for something tk believe in so we don’t have to think for ourselves and so we don’t have to accept reality. It’s written as a story in a very sci-fi manner. I’ve taken some influence from the works of David Icke, his reptilian theory, and hints of the movie They Live too. It follows events and aftermath of the revelation that everything we know and believe in within our modern society has been proven a lie, whether it’s faith, our government or the origins of humanity, and the horrible truth emerges from the ashes.”

Thrash Hits verdict
We’ve got a lot of hope for the second album from Lowestoft’s Annotations Of An Autopsy. With 2009 littered with death metal disappointments (from old hands and new faces alike), II: The Reign Of Darkness could be the slab of forward-thinking unholy squealing that sets death metal back on track for 2010. With the legendary Erik Rutan mixing the record (and laying down guest vocals on ‘Bone Crown’), all the signs are that that this will be the record that gives AOAA that elusive foot-in-the-door stateside.
The band have already shown their aptitude at walking the death metal tightrope – they know not to stray too far from the death metal template to keep the purists from boo-hoo’ing that it’s not “proper” death metal, but also not to stick so close to the formula that they’re criticised for cannibalising the classics. 2010 could just be their year to triumph.
