Do you know who Viatrophy are/were? They were That Band Your Mate Mentioned Down The Pub Once Who You Liked The Sound Of And You Were Going To Check Out Later This Year When The New Album Came Out And Then Suddenly You’d Realise They Were Awesome But Since They’ve Just Announced They’re Splitting Up This’ll Never Happen Now.
Yeah, they’re that band.
The Reading-based band announced their forthcoming split on the band’s official MySpace page with the following statement:
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Viatrophy are splitting up. Gurneet has decided he no longer wants to continue with the band and wants to concentrate on a degree and different career path. As he and I were the main writing force, we unfortunately cannot physically go on any longer as a band.
The tour dates on our page will be our FINAL tour. Merch will be ridiculously cheap and I will quite possibly cry. Book tickets early! The rest of us are as bummed as you.
Thank you for all the good times. Thank you to everyone who came to a show, partied with us, gave us a place to crash, bought some shirts or a CD. To those who downloaded it, well… that doesn’t matter any more does it… Thanks I guess! Thanks to all the promoters who put us on, and to all the bands we’ve toured with. Thanks to SOAR for giving us the opportunity to release two CDs. Who knows what will happen to all the music we had written for the third. Thanks to Terrorizer, Metal hammer, and especially KERRANG magazine for believing in us. Thank you all. This was the best time of my life and I never wanted it to end.
This is well shit. If you’ve got any brains in that thick skull of yours, you’ll make the effort to catch the band on what is now their forthcoming farewell-tour. The band had also been set for a Sunday slot at the Thrash Hits-sponsored Hellfire Club in May, but its looks as though that won’t be happening now. BOO.

This is disastrous! A great British band is gone before their time.
Viatrophy, you will be sorely missed.

Ah that totally sucks… I knew the guys from my years drinking in the Purple Turtle of Reading – G was a great guitarist, and even noodled in Sylosis for a bit.
Sad times…

Believe it or not Jack, for all the shit Kerrang puts on the front cover, there are some genuine music fans that work on that magazine. Ever looked in the reviews section? They big up some bands you’d never think they’d ever feature. I remember them giving 5Ks to a Cult of Luna record back in the day.

As Tom knows I will miss them so much. Saw them live in Guildford Boiler Rooms with out 10 other people who weren’t in the other band playing. I loved their EP but the full length was an absolute cracker.
