ATR Takeover: CX KiDTRONiK’s Top 5 ATR tracks

We’ve all got our own opinions over which Atari Teenage Riot tracks are the best – Hell, on Alec Empire’s recent Past.Present.Future tour, the main topics of conversation throughout the crowd was over which tracks they thought he would dig out later that night. With the reunion tour kicking off next week, we decided it was time to find out what the band’s favourite ATR tracks were – if only to see if we can’t second guess what they’ll be playing live this time around.

And who better to start us off than the new boy in ATR – CX KiDTRONiK.

But first – a brief history lesson. On September 06, 2001, Carl Crack, founder member of ATR and the band’s live MC, was found dead in his Berlin apartment following a drug overdose. With Atari Teenage Riot already on something of a hiatus following the destructive end of their 60 Second Wipeout promotional tours, any hopes among fans that the band would cease their hiatus anytime soon died along with Carl Crack.

However, a decade on, when the reunion itch flared-up, Alec Empire recruited New York MC, producer and musician, CX KiDTRONiK to fill the vacant MC role in the band. We’ll cover his reasons for doing so (including why CX isn’t a replacement for Carl Crack) in our interviews later this week, but for the time being, here are CX’s choices for his Top 5 ATR tracks:

1. ‘Let’s Go Crazy’
“Because it’s on my forthcoming LP, and Nic Endo murders the vocals, & Alec the beat”

2. ‘Activate’
“Because it’s super crunk/amped up, get’s my blood pumping, and I’m on it…”

3. ‘Death Of A President D.I.Y.’
“Because Nic Endo kills the vocals and the back and forth/answer male/female vocal switch”

4. ‘Not Your Business’
“Because of the video clip on YouTube- Live at Reading ’99 – so hardcore (and sexy. he he!)”

Watch the video clip CK is talking about:

5. ‘Fuck All’
“Because i can’t wait to scream “FUCK ALL!” 67 times onstage, and the kick drum arrangement is sick”
