High Voltage Festival has decided to get in on the early-festival-announcement game that everyone else is playing right now – they’ve announced today that the more-metal-than-anyone Judas Priest, and prog-metal kings Dream Theater, will be the two headline acts at High Voltage 2011 on July 23 and 24 respectively.

This news is both awesome and awful – because while we are stoked that we’ll get to see Judas Priest killing it in Victoria Park next summer, the band confirmed today that their High Voltage performance will be part of the band’s final ever world tour, which they have fittingly decided to call the ‘Epitaph Tour’.

We understand Judas Priest’s reasoning – they have, after all, been touring the globe for over of four decades – which is longer than all of us here at Thrash Hits have been alive. It’s even managed to overshadow the announcement of Dream Theater’s only UK festival appearance of 2011 – we’re fairly sure that under almost any other circumstances, we’d be spending this time speculating who is going to fill Mike Portnoy’s drum seat – instead we’re giving ourselves a premature bangover by blasting out British Steel on repeat.

Better buy your High Voltage tickets sharpish – it might be your last chance to see this:

At present, the only parts of the the Epitaph World Tour that Judas Priest have announced are a handful of European festival dates, but the band have promised to announce a whole slew of international shows in good time. Whatever happens, it means that we’ll definitely be sorting out our tickets for High Voltage Festival 2011 as soon as fucking possible – tickets are available new through the festival’s official website.
