Ever wanted to know what big, strapping Teutonic thrash bands get up to over Christmas? What guys like Leif Jensen, vocalist with Dew-Scented, do to see in the New Year? Well, apparently they eat….falafel?
What is your favourite Christmas drink?
“Glühwein”, for sure! That’s hot spiced wine for those of you who never heard about this…keeps you warm and gets you really nicely buzzed!
Do you have any particular or unusual Christmas traditions?
Nah, I seriously try to avoid the actual Christmas celebration as much as possible. I regularly head out on some retreat weekend with my work’s colleagues and see my family. Otherwise I use the holidays to spend some quality time off relaxing at home and sleeping as much as I possibly can afford to in order to recharge batteries and get ready for a new year of challenges. But, on the bright side, this time of the year happens to bring along some good food after all…
If you could have Christmas dinner with any 6 people, who would you invite?
Wow, this is a tough one as I keep thinking about a metal Christmas type of get-together, but maybe I should make it a bit more open-minded of an answer?! OK, I would certainly wanna have my girlfriend around, then a really good 3-star type cook who specializes on vegetarian food, also I would invite Jesus just to see who actually shows up and what he has to say (guessing Jesus wouldn’t attend anyhow, we might as well have Lemmy over?!), my number 4 would be Scooby-Doo, then Tori Amos as special musical guest (but not to perform her Christmas album but instead stuff off ‘Little Earthquakes’, ‘Under The Pink’ and ‘From The Choirgirl Hotel’…) and last but not least, Chevy Chase as joker to add some funny element in case things go quiet. You know, Griswold family style, haha! Sounds like an interesting evening to me…
Because there’s always time for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, right?
Turkey: are you a leg or breast person?
I am vegetarian for almost two decades now so I would probably have to answer that I am more of a Falafel type of guy, hahaha. But in general I think “breast-type”, haha! Any good soy-turkey around?
When did you find out Santa Claus wasn’t real and how did it happen?
Hahaha, I don’t think I ever bought into that guy! My parents were pretty straight forward with me from early on already…I wasn’t baptized and they also didn’t tell me about the stork and stuff!
What was your best Christmas present ever?
Oh tons, but it’s not quite as exciting when you are no kid anymore. I got a large towel of my fave soccer team last year. That was pretty sweet of my girlfriend…
What’s the furthest you’ve ever had to travel to get “home” for Christmas? Has touring ever forced you to celebrate Christmas somewhere else?
Actually I think I have mainly been nearby home / family or at least close to my apartment around the time of Christmas holidays. Touring would be sort of tough around this time being an underground type of Thrash Metal band. That said, I have managed to be away on distant holidays in warmer areas during the Christmas period, so that was fine actually…
Which metaller would you least like to see approaching you with mistletoe?
You mean to be kissed under the mistletoe? Hmmmm, Gene Simmons for obvious reasons!
Watch a Dew-Scented video from 2007. That seems like ages ago, doesn’t it?
If a bearded man broke into your house through the chimney on any other day of the year, what would you do?
I would be pretty impressed as there is a newly built concrete wall of whatever used to be the chimney in my apartment, so that would be quite amazing to witness happen!
Which one of Santa’s reindeer would you be and why? (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen and Rudolf.)
Are they any different to each other?! I thought Vixen was a solid and hard rocking band, so let’s go with that one…
What’s been your worst New Year’s Eve experience (because NYE always sucks).
I was probably wasted enough to forget it again!
What will your New Year’s Resolution be?
I might wanna start smoking again after I quite 3 years ago, hahaha! No, seriously, I will try to be more relaxed in my daily life and try to enjoy things some more…
Dew-Scented are touring across Europe at the start of 2011 with Melechesh, Zonaria and Darkrise, with the tour arriving in the UK at the start of February. After that, the band has said they will likely only play some selected few festivals before knuckling down to the business of writing new material for the next Dew-Scented.
