What they’re saying:
In summer 2010 Josh Homme said the band was aiming at at a summer 2011 release and told Rolling Stone:

“It’s all about wiggling hips. The music is gonna go further down that strange and lovely path of Era Vulgaris.”

Then around Christmas 2010, keyboardist Dean Fertita said this to Billboard:

“Everybody seems excited and ready to go. We’ve got so many ideas started already; I guess we’ll see what turns out to be everybody’s favourite. It’s very much still (Josh Homme’s) band, but I think all of us really feel like we’ve found our space in it and can contribute to it as well.”

Guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen told an Australian website:

“We all love the blues, and we all love to boogie. On the other side, there might be some new scenes. It’s really early in the process and it’s not too defined what it is, but we’re all feeling really great about it and there’s no shortage of ideas. We’re trying to filter the best of the best.”

Thrash Hits verdict:
They’re currently in the studio and then they’re heading out to Australia for Soundwave in March so the recording definitely is not going to drag on and on. By the sounds of it, they’re going to pick up where they left off with Era Vulgaris so don’t be expecting anything but another great QotSA album. If, as expected, they back up the release of their sixth album with loads of festival dates then it will be another wonderful thing. They haven’t released a bad album and by re-issuing their debut in March, they’ll continue that trend.

Guitar solo potential:
2/6
