Warner Bros Records
ETA Summer 2011
What they’re saying:
In August 2010, Warner Bros issued a press release indicating that a new studio album and tour are planned for 2011.
Janie Van Halen is Van Halen’s publicist and she’s been busy doing quite a contrary PR thing:
“What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don’t have any updates at this time.”
The Van Halen News Desk is run by the former publishers of the band’s official magazine, and they retain close connections with the outfit’s organisation. Now they’ve revealed what they insist are the facts behind the flurry of rumours which have been flying in recent months:
“The band is very eager to tour, and to to it behind new material. Eddie Van Halen has been very busy during 2010 writing music. Brother Alex and son Wolfgang often join him in the studio. The three of them have been hard at work, and sending music to David Lee Roth. The music sounds like straight-ahead rock’n’roll and very Van Halen.”
The Van Halen News Desk was the first to report in December that Van Halen were to record a new studio album with Grammy Award winning producer John Shanks in January 2011
Thrash Hits verdict:
After years and years of being rumoured as headliners for Download Festival, could Van Halen be Andy Copping’s secret weapon for 2011? Having taken a serious blow when Sonisphere unveiled the Big Four, Download really needs to bring out the big guns to compete with the new kids on the block. With confirmation that Van Halen are indeed recording their twelfth studio album, it may be time for Mr. Copping to dig deep. As for the record, it will be the first with David Lee Roth on vocals since 1984 (the year and the album) and many fans will be hoping for a return to the brilliance of the band’s early years. Bear in mind Diamond Dave is now 56 and might not wear the yellow spandex. Just sayin’.
Guitar Solo Potential:
6/6 – It’s Eddie Van Halen ffs.
