After last night’s controversial revelation that Download Festival have booked Def Leppard as their third main stage headliner, this morning the festival has announced another 16 bands that are joining the bill at Donnington. And we gotta admit – at least one of those names caught us totally off guard.

The bands added to Download today are Bring Me The Horizon, Disturbed, All That Remains, Turisas, The Devil Wears Prada, Sacred Mother Tongue, Madina Lake, The King Blues, Frank Turner, Bowling For Soup, Cheap Trick, Black Stone Cherry, Asking Alexandria, Straight Line Stitch, Jameson Raid, and Ghost. Yes, Ghost! We’d be lying if we said we ever saw that last booking coming. We can still scarcely believe it.

Watch Ghost up close and personal at the Hammer of Doom festival last year:

The last time Ghost were in the UK it was last year for the quite frankly incredible Live Evil Festival. If you’re not familiar with Ghost, Terrorizer rather aptly describes them as possessing a “King-Diamond-raised-in-California-listening-to-the-Beach-Boys vibe”. Ghost’s all-anonymous band membership and their message of devil-worshipping evil might be dismissed by some as nothing but a gimmick, but we defy anyone to listen to their debut album, Opus Eponymous, and not feel the weight of those tunes. ‘Ritual’ is a stone-cold classic waiting to be embraced by the metal masses.

Tickets for Download Festival 2011 are on sale now through the festival’s official website, starting at £145 and rising depending on what package you buy and what booking fees people are slapping on such things these days.
