The latest line-up announcement for Sonipshere Fesitval is pretty much a say-what-you-see kinda news story – Limp Bizkit, Gallows, Gojira, The Sisters Of Mercy, Kids In Glass Houses, InMe, Volbeat, Protest The Hero and One Minute Silence (oh yeah!) have been added to the bill of this year’s festival.
It’s been confirmed that this will be Limp Bizkit’s only UK festival performance of 2011, so unlike the band’s controversial billing at Sonisphere 2008, this one isn’t going to be doubled-up with a sneaky Download Festival slot on the side.
As for the rest of the line-up additions, Gallows return for a second year in a row is a bit of a surprise. Gloomy gothic types, The Sisters Of Mercy, is a booking that no-one saw coming, but it will mean we get to play our favourite festival drinking game again. We’re never sorry to get another chance to proclaim how Gojiramazing Joe Duplantier’s French metal titans are, and the fact that thousands upon thousands of metallers will probably get to see them for the first time this Summer is awesome news. As fot the rest of the line-up additions, it’s a mixture of ho-hums, so-whats, and not-bads, except for the fact that Sonisphere is welcoming One Minute frickin’ Silence back to the festival fold. Call us a bunch of nostaligic old gits, but this continuing trend of Sonisphere booking great metal bands from our teenage years (as they did with earthtone9 last year) makes us punch the air in delight.
We’re planning on partying like it’s 1999:
Tickets for Sonisphere Festival are available now through the official Sonisphere website, where prices start at £180 (plus al the usual fees and whatnot). It doesn’t look like Sonisphere are planning on selling day tickets for this year’s festival, which once again takes place at the splendid Knebworth Park, so you better start saving up if you want to catch The Big Four, Slipknot, Mastodon, Motörhead, Parksway Drive, Biffy Clyro, In Flames, Architects, Weezer, Diamond Head, Airbourne and all of the bands announced earlier today tearing it up at Knebworth Park.
