“Don’t ever stop it / You got it / Accelerate it I want it!” Not only could the most brainless of pop acts write better drivel than the lyricism on display on Forever The Sickest Kids latest record, but these unfortunate phrases are imbedded amongst the electro-pop monstrosity that is second single ‘Life of the Party’. You can only wonder what was going through the quintet’s heads when they made a track that could force 3OH!3 to spew with its overbearing synth-stink.

Luckily, the rest of the Texans’ sophomore album isn’t as cringeworthy; but it’s a damn close thing. First single and opener ‘Keep on bringing me down’ is, surprisingly, rather acceptable as an addition to the mush of American pop-rock. Yet after that the album takes a downturn (yes, after only one song), accompanied by an ego-trip sprinkled with twee and/or a dose of sexism. ‘King For A Day’ is a sickly-sweet, We The Kings rip-off, while ‘Good Life’ and ‘Forever Girl’ delve into new realms of pathetic. All without a trace of a good hook.

No doubt there are a few key pieces of advice this band are missing. Let 3OH!3 do their (hopefully) ironic sexist thing. Let scenesters with swallow tattoos play synth. Let someone talented write your lyrics. If Forever the Sickest Kids is supposed to define the band, then god help their poor fans.

1/6

Sounds Like: (a bastardised version of) 3OH!3, You Me At Six, We The Kings
Top Tracks: Keep on Bringing Me Down, I Guess You Can Say Things Are Getting Pretty Serious. The first two tracks on the album are the only half-acceptable tracks, I literally cannot recommend a third.
