Damnation Festival 2011 adds Godflesh, God Is An Astronaut and Altar Of Plagues to line-up

Godflesh Justin Broadrick Thrash Hits

Bloody Hell, Damnation Festival have only gone and snuck out three very interesting line-up additions last night while we were off grilling Download Festival’s head-honcho, Andy Copping (which you’ll get to see next week). Godflesh, God Is An Astronaut and Altar of Plagues? Damnation Festival, you’re spoiling us!

First up, full respect must go out to the mighty Godflesh - Justin Broadrick and co. have no doubt turned down bigger monies from Download and Sonisphere to once again play one of the smaller UK festivals. Last year they played their only UK set at Supersonic Festival over in Birmingham, and while their appearance at Damanation this November isn’t being billed as their only UK show of 2011, we’d put good money on there not being many others. It’s yet another reason why Damnation Festival should be marked, circled, underlined and highlighted on your festival calendar as of yesterday.

God Is An Astronaut aren’t a band we’ve had much leave to write about here on Thrash Hits, but suffice to say their music has provided the soundtrack more than once to some of our student-years space-out sessions. While we won’t be re-enacting such shenanigans now we’ve become responsible, upstanding members of society, we have no hesitation in recommending the Irish quartet’s instrumental post-rock as a must-see set at this year’s Damnation Festival.

And finally we have Altar Of Plagues. Our man Tom Dare best sums up why you should be excited to see these guys added to the bill in his reviews of both their recent album, Mammal, as well as last year’s re-release of their 2009 record, White Tomb. Our boy Tom might let himself get a little superlative from time to time, but rarely have we seen him enthuse about a band as much as he has with Altar Of Plagues.

We had an absolute blast at Damnation Festival 2010, and can’t wait to head up to Leeds again this year to do it all over again. Tickets are on sale now through LeedsTickets.com and SeeTickets.com, and will only set you back an incredibly reasonable price of £29 (plus fees and all that bollocks). The festival once again is taking place at Leeds University, this year taking place on November 05. That’s Guy Fawkes’ Night – and as we all know, Guy Fawkes is metal.
