Greg Puciato, the terrifyingly-hench frontman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, is a man well-known for his restlessness. And we’re not just talking about his near-frenzied stage performances either – anyone that follows him on Twitter knows that this is the man who regularly expresses his desire that the “Rock Clock” runs “24/7″ (as well as contemplating never-ending hood parties with certain members of the Thrash Hits team). Well, with The Dillinger Escape Plan in something of a downtime period right now, Puciato has kept himself occupied by recording a very interesting cover song – it’s one that might take you by surprise.
The song in question is ‘Driving’ by Oupa, the solo project of Daniel Blumberg from the band Yuck. We’d be interested to know how many of our readers have heard of Yuck, because while they fall waaay outside of Thrash Hits’ remit, they’ve received significant interest from other areas of the music press. Drop us a comment down below if they’ve popped up on your radar before now.
Anyway, without any further ado, here’s Greg Puciato’s cover of ‘Driving’:

Over on his official website, The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman explained why he’d chosen to record this particular cover:
“The song resonated with me, and I dig the album it came from and wanted to record it for fun. Then I figured why not share it and give the album and original artist some exposure, while letting you guys hear me on a non-DEP (or heavy at all) track. So here you go. Recorded in the middle of the night last night and most of the day today. Check the original version out and give the album a listen here if you want. http://boiledegg.bandcamp.com/album/forget“
In addition to self-recording piano-based cover versions of London hipster tunes, Puciato has been keeping himself busy working on “an album of thrash brutality” with Max Cavalera, which is also heavily rumoured to feature performances from members of The Mars Volta and Converge. We’ll admit to not being overly taken with Max Cavalera’s more recent musical output, but if the end result is even half as brutal as Nailbomb then there’s going to be a lot of happy campers here at Thrash Hits.
