Thrash Hits Verdict:
In the second of our Tangled Tour preview interviews, we caught up with Sam Bush from Battle For Paris. At some point, we started talking about the comedy value of members of run, WALK! throwing up at gigs. Y’know, as you do.

Describe your sound in 3 words
Um, what? Yeah.

How did you meet?
We met through being in other bands and attending school together.

What made you want to start a band?
We became bored with those other bands and school.

Where did you grow up? How do you think it’s affected your music?
We grew up in a little town called Bridport. Although it’s small there were always bands around and people were into decent music, so it probably did us some good.

So far, what has been the best thing about being in a band?
Being able to do and make awesome stuff with some of your best friends.

How did Battle For Paris come to be involved with Tangled Talk Records? What’s your story there?
Andrej [Presern, boss of Tangled Talk Records] heard our EP and said he wanted to release it. We had heard the Pictures double A-side 7” he put out and loved that, and he’s also a massive Blood Brothers fan so we were well into it. He hadn’t done anything with Tangled Talk for about a year or so prior to it and our release with him kind of kicked everything off again.

What’s wrong with UK hardcore in 2011? And what’s right about it?
It depends on how you look at it and why you’re involved in the first place. If you’re reading this then you’re probably what’s right about it.

What marks you out as different to other bands around at the moment?
We recorded our entire album ourselves, our music is pretty different to a lot of stuff out there at the moment and we all hug each other too much.

What’s the best – and the funniest – shows you’ve played?
The best show was at this place called Molodoi in France; it was just an amazing venue with a brilliant crowd and awesome people. Funny shows usually involve Tom Clements being angry / drunk / sick everywhere.

What have you got planned for the future?
We’re touring Europe with run, WALK! in November. Our debut album Superstar is coming out on Tangled Talk Records early next year, and from then on more touring/ splits/weekenders/mad concept EPs/court dates, etc.

What other bands should everyone find out about (that isn’t on the tour)?
Johnny Foreigner, Christa Pike, and LITE.

Tell us a joke.
The past, the present and the future all walked into a bar at the same time.

It was tense.

Battle For Paris are just one of the bands taking part in The Tangled Tour – so called because it features the cream of the Tangled Talk Records roster. It’s going to lay waste to seven towns and cities across the UK in October, and as far as line-ups featuring young British talent go, this tour is pretty much bang-on as far as getting our juices flowing goes:

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be running features on all the bands taking part in this almighty trek – we featured Goodtime Boys earlier this week – but keep your eyes peeled and your RSS readers firmly pointed at Thrash Hits for more coming soon.
