From the opinion-splitting True Norwegian Black Metal, through to the genuinely fascinating Heavy Metal in Baghdad, Vice have a solid rep when it comes to making documentaries about the sharp end of rock’n'roll. With their new series, On The Road, Vice – with the help of Jesse Hughes from the Eagles of Death Metal – are now peaking behind the curtain at the rarified world of The Roadie.
Last week Vice invited us along to a seedy basement in East London to watch the first two episodes of the series – the first covering Queens of the Stone Age and their infamous roadie/soundman Hutch, and the second featuring Jef Hickey, veteran roadie for Megadeth (and dozens of other bands) – and we were more than impressed with not just how insightful the series is, but how funny it is. This was in no small part down to Jesse Hughes, frontman for the Eagles of Death Metal and erstwhile host of On The Road, who’s observations on the nature of roadie-life pin the whole escapade together.

The first full-length episode from On The Road is premiering now over on Vice’s brand spanking-new website. Future episodes promise to feature the likes of Steel Panther, MORE at some point later today. And after you’ve checked it out, be sure to waste some more time checking out the other crazy business going on over on Vice’s website.
