It’s Guy Fawkes Night. It’s Bonfire Night. It’s Fireworks Night. It’s the 5th of November. Remember, remember. All of that – you know the drill. Basically we’re going to not get drunk tonight and instead we’re going to responsibly nail a gunpowder-filled circular tube to the fence and set it alight. Sounds silly, doesn’t it. Anyway, here’s something of a soundtrack.
1) Manowar – Shell Shock
Seeing as the heavy metal legends are actually playing Brixton Academy on Guy Fawkes, it’s only right to include this song off their debut album, Battle Hymns. After a night of heavy bombing – whether it be booze-related or to do fireworks – you’ll probably be a bit shell shocked after all.
2) Metallica – Fuel
Taken from their much-maligned (not as maligned as Lulu, obviously) seventh album, ReLoad, this is one of James Hetfield’s favourite ‘Tallica songs. You shouldn’t actually put any fuel on your bonfire. You’ll burn your eyebrows off.
3) Lamb Of God – As The Palaces Burn
The title track to their 2003 album is clearly a song about a bonfire gone wrong. Don’t let that happen tonight. Especially if you own a palace. The Virginia metallers announced the January 2012 release of Resolution this week. That will be good.
4) Mastodon – March Of The Fire Ants
It says “fire” in the title, ok? And it’s Mastodon. No more reasoning required. What are the chances of The Hunter being Thrash Hits album of 2012? Quite high? OK.
5) High On Fire – Frost Hammer
If your bonfire gets out of control, a frost hammer would be really handy for keeping it bang tidy. That’s obviously what High On Fire were thinking about when they wrote this song. Errr… yeah.
6) The Prodigy – Firestarter
You don’t need any explanations for this one.
