ETA April 2012
What they’re saying:
Not too much at this stage, though we do know that this will be an album of new Anathema material (as opposed to old material revisited a la Hindsight or Falling Deeper) and the natural follow up to 2010’s critically acclaimed We’re Here Because We’re Here. Last year Vincent Cavanagh revealed plans to have the record written by the end of 2011 and released in Spring 2012 to Rock Overdose:
“We’re focusing on the next Anathema album for which we’ve already recorded 14 songs – half of which are finished and half of which need to be finished by the end of the year. We’ll mix it in January and release it in April, if all goes well. That’ll be four albums in four years! So I guess that’s our main focus… keep releasing.”
At this stage (around the 2:20 mark, if you’re listening in to the clip on the link) the journalist conducting the interview probes for ‘exclusive’ specifics a bit too deeply for Vinnie’s liking, forcing him to put his foot down and insist they are promoting their new album (Falling Deeper), not their new new album. It’s all a bit awkward.
Watch us have a bit of a fanboy moment with Vinnie at Download Festival 201:
Thrash Hits verdict:
The band are keeping things fairly close to their chest on this one, so we’d be lying if we said we knew much more. What we do know is that it will surely be something pretty spectacular, judging how finely tuned this creative machine have been in recent years. Their last studio album was voted Album Of The Year by our chums over at Classic Rock Presents Prog, so this record will certainly have a lot to live up to.
