Bloodstock Open Air has added Ancient Egypt-obsessed death metallers, Nile, and historically-extremely-important-although-not-really-as-good-as-they-used-to-be black metallers, Mayhem, to its 2012 line-up. And…errr…that’s about it. Both bands are making their Bloodstock debuts, and both bands are going to be UK festival exclusives for Bloodstock this year, but then again we doubt there were many other festivals fighting to be first ones to knock either band’s booking agent’s doors.
Don’t get us wrong – both bands will no doubt put on a kickass show on the Main Stage at Bloodstock Open Air this year, but we don’t really see how being “UK festival exclusives!!!11!!1” is that big a deal if no-one else was going to book you in the first place. Does Bloodstock really need to try to sell itself with “exclusive” bands? We love Bloodstock, and one of the reasons we love it so much is because it books the bands that no-one else dares book. Why not sell the festival on that?
