In the first of tonight’s Download Festival 2012 announcements, Soundgarden, Biffy Clyro, YouMeAtSix, Chase and Status and Tenacious D have been added to the bill of this year’s festival. Zane Lowe confirmed the names in an official announcement on BBC Radio 1. They join the already-announced Main Stage headliners of Metallica, Black Sabbath, and The Prodigy.
Biffy Clyro are set to play underneath Metallica on the Main stage – which some might see as a bit of a step backward after the band’s Apollo headline spot at Sonisphere Festival 2011. Chase and Status are booked to appear before The Prodigy – we bet there’s some dark corners of the internet whipping themselves into a frenzy of cry-wank psychosis at the addition of Chase and Status to the bill, but y’know, that’s the internet for you. At the time of writing, we don’t really know where the other three names are going to be placed on the bill, but given their relative heavy-hitter sizes, we imagine it’ll either be fairly high up the bill on the Main Stage, or grabbing headliner or second-headliner spots on the Second Stage.
There are nine more bands to be announced tonight, but they aren’t going to be announced until Daniel P Carter’s Rock Show later tonight. Tickets for Download Festival 2012 are on sale now from the festival’s official website, and start at £180 (not including those damned fees). You might want to think about buying soon though, as you’ve only got two left to pick up tickets at last year’s prices before they go up at least £10 on January 30 – and it’s rumoured they might go up as much as £20. That’s about five festival beers by our maths. This year’s Download Festival – as always – takes place at Donington Park from June 8-10.
