If you get up very early in the morning, you’ll have spotted that Download Festival‘s head promoter, Andy Copping, announced another 22 bands for this year’s festival via his Twitter account this morning. And as you’d expect from such a large announcement, it’s a mix of old and new, big and small, and awesome and just plain awful.
Arguably the bigger names in this announcement are some of those from the other side of the pond: Corey Taylor, Dropkick Murphys, Cancer Bats, and Fozzy. Perhaps most interesting of the bands announced is Upon A Burning Body, who are making their UK festival debut at Download this year. The old school get a look in too, via the bookings of Saxon, Sebastian Bach, Gun, and The Quireboys. There are plenty of killer up and coming British names among the bands too, ranging from the more established names of Sylosis, The Defiled, and Rise To Remain, a couple of bands well on their way to that level in While She Sleeps and We Are The Ocean, right on through to up-and-comers like The James Cleaver Quintet and Marmozets. Making up the tail-end of the announcement with varying degrees of “huh?”, “who?, and “so what?” are SOiL, Kopek, Heaven’s Basement, The Treatment, Butcher Babies, and Red, White & Blues.
Tickets for Download Festival 2012 are on sale now from the festival’s official website, and start at £155 for the most bare-bones packages (although that doesn’t include those pesky fees). If you’re thinking of going, it might be better to buy sooner rather than later – family camping packages for the festival have already sold out. This year’s Download Festival – as always – takes place at Donington Park from June 8-10.
