Bloodstock Open Air have confirmed another eight names for their 2012 bill – Lock Up and Chthonic for the Ronnie James Dio (aka Main) stage, and Alcest, Winterfylleth, Demonic Resurrection, Headcharger, Eastern Front and Ancient Ascendant as those named for the Sophie Lancaster (aka Second) stage.
Lock Up are one of those bands who seem to exist permanently on the cusp of declaring they’ll never play live again. We’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve read (or spread) the rumour that whatever their current festival booking happens to be is going to be their last before the band declares they’re stopping playing shows. Don’t get us wrong – we most definitely don’t want Lock Up to stop playing live shows – and given that the band have carried on for six years since the death of Jesse Pintado, the band’s founding guitarist, maybe it’s about time people gave those rumours a rest.
Of the Sophie Lancaster announcements, Alcest get their biggest UK billing to date, being as they are the Friday night stage headliners. Demonic Resurrection continue to be the only Indian metal band anyone in the UK even pretends to have heard about, while Eastern Front remain the black metal band who continue to remind us that corpse paint doesn’t really work if you’re not from Scandinavia. Ancient Ascendant are another of those death metal bands you’ll of idly watch at a festival while silently complaining about how much you paid for the flimsy box of overpriced sweet’n’sour noodles you’re currently eating cost, but nothing much more. The only reason we remember Headcharger is that they’re French, and they ambushed us when we were doing interviews at Sonisphere that time.
I guess we could round this festival announcement blog out with some controversial opinions about Winterfylleth, but instead why don’t we skip all the drama and watch the video of Raz horsing around with Chthonic – the other of today’s new Bloodstock line-up additions we haven’t mentioned yet?
