Vans Warped Tour to return to the UK after 14 year absence

Vans Warped Tour UK first promo pic Thrash Hits

Well, this is a turn up for the books – the Vans Warped Tour is going to be coming to the UK after nearly a decade and a half of absence. Even though at this stage there’s no information concrete information regarding the line-up, ticket price, exact date beyond “November” or venue beyond “it’s in London”, the fact that it’s coming here at all is still something of a surprise.

The last time the Vans Warped Tour made it to the UK, it manifested by taking over the dance tent for one day at Reading & Leeds Festival. This was back way, way before the balance of punk/dance shifted (now, of course, The Lock Up Stage runs for two days at Reading & Leeds, with the Dance line-up relegated to just a single day), and if memory serves, was actually headlined by Ice-T. We foolishly missed him to go watch Red Hot Chili Peppers headline the main stage, but remember this was back when RHCP were touring their Californication album so hadn’t totally succumbed to “being a bit shit and lazy” yet.

Of course, what with the UK Vans Warped Tour landing in November, it won’t be the same kind of event as the Summer mini-fests that the long-running USA incarnation of the tour will be. Information may be a bit thin on the ground right now, but we imagine the London Warped Tour date will almost certainly take the form of a big, one-day event somewhere in London where there’s the capacity for multiple stages. The O2, perhaps? (Or as our commentators have pointed out below, based on the photograph, Alexandra Palace, most probably…)

Now while at first That might sound ambitious, but it’s given the UK Vans Warped Tour is just a single date, it’s far more likely to consist solely of fairly “big” names (at least as far as “Warped Tour bands” go), rather than the splattergun approach to booking the US multi-date version has. As for who those bands are, we imagine more than a handful of  the current “big” names taking on this Summer’s US Warped Tour will make it on to the UK bill. This year, those bands include All Time Low, Four Year Strong, New Found Glory, Of Mice & Men, Pierce the Veil, Rise Against, Streetlight Manifesto, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Yellowcard, Every Time I Die, Anti-Flah, Lostprophets, Blessthefall, Rise To Remain, Chelsea Grin, Falling In Reverse, You Me At Six, Title Fight and We Are The Ocean.

At the moment, the official UK Vans Warped Tour website is just a form to fill out to sign up for email updates, but no doubt there’ll be more information about the event leaking out on the internet soon. We’ve already got our nose to the ground…
