Michael Monroe, former frontman with Hanoi Rocks and long-established solo artist in his own right, is 50 years old today. We once saw him backstage at Download Festival 2010, and he didn’t seem to have aged in about 35 years. It was slightly terrifying. It’s in the spirit of that terror that we present this week’s Sunday Slaylist – a tribute to the birthday-boy himself.
Admittedly, this means this week’s Slaylist is pretty heavily biased towards’s Monroe’s Hanoi Rocks material, but there’s plenty of other choice tracks in there too. Annoyingly, the awesome track by the Backyard Babies, ‘Rocker’, on which Michael Monroe guested, isn’t available on Spotify. That was the song that first got us in to Backyard Babies. SHINFO.
Spotify is available to most of Western Europe, the USA, Australia and New Zealand for free – though obviously you’re better off shelling out either £5 or £10 a month for one of Spotify’s premium packages, as then you can listen to our Slaylists without having them interrupted by adverts. For our readers in countries not currently serviced by Spotify….sorry. You’ll just have to make do with a video of Micheal Monroe and the Hanoi Rocks doing what they do best….just not doing it on Spotify (for you, at any rate).
Because it’s not on Spotify, listen Michael Monroe and Backyard Babies performing ‘Rocker’:
