Well, here’s one that slipped under our radar. We’ve been banging on about Vice’s On The Road series recently, but their sister-site, Noisey, has just started showing a new three-part documentary series titled One Man Metal, giving a somewhat more dramatic title to the sub-subgenre it is showcasing – that which more often than not gets referred to as Bedroom Black Metal.
The three individuals the series is focussing on are Jef “Wrest” Whitehead (aka Leviathan), Sin Nanna of Striborg, and Scott Connor (aka Xasthur). The series is the first time ever that Scott Connor has appeared on video, and is pretty much the first time ever that he’s been so open about the Xasthur recording process.
What’s also interesting about this film – and significantly more unpleasant – is that while it’s unclear exactly when One Man Metal was filmed, but apparently it was before Jef Whitehead was found guilty of aggravated domestic battery and sentenced to two years probation. Apparently the entire series was delayed while Whitehead’s court case was continuing. It does throw up the moral quandry, “should we even be promoting this video, given that Whitehead’s been convicted of a serious offence?” We’re still undecided. If you feel strongly either way, give us a shout down in the comments section below.
Parts 2 and 3 of One Man Metal are due for release in the next few weeks – keep your eyes on Noisey’s official website for more details.
