Sunday Slaylist: Earache’s Metalizer Spotify App

Earache Spotify Metalizer Thrash Hits

The thing about all the ways that it’s possible to listen to music these days is the paralysis of too much choice. We turn on Spotify some mornings and we’re just overawed by the vast amount of music we can listen to. We bet a bloody great number of you have exactly the same problem – that’s why you come and check out our curated Slaylists, right? They’re the kind of thing that gives you just enough of a nudge to listen to new or unexpected things, right?

Well, it seems Earache Records think that too, as this week they launched a bloody marvellous Spotify App by the name of the Metalizer.

Basically, the Earache Metalizer is an ace automated playlist generator. As you can see by the snazzy graphical interface below, you tweak the various sub-genre gauges to indicate what balance of tracks you’d like between the four on offer (which at launch is “metal”, death, thrash and grind), choose how many songs you want in your playlist and BOSH, there’s your playlist. Click the photo below and have a play around yourself.

So this week, we’re not actually going to make you a Slaylist. We want you to go make one yourself using the Earache Metalizer App. And then drop us a link to it. Why? No reason. We’re just nosy. Apparently over 23,000 (bloody hell!) playlists have already been generated by the App on just its first day of release (seriously, bloody hell!), so you’ll be in good company.

Spotify is available to most of Western Europe, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and a few other places for free – though obviously you’re better off shelling out either £5 or £10 a month for one of Spotify’s premium packages, as then you can listen to our Slaylists without having them interrupted by adverts. For our readers in countries not currently serviced by Spotify….merry Christmas to you too. Maybe you’ll get lucky and Spotify will come to your country in 2013.
