Download Festival 2013: Slipknot @ Main Stage – Friday, 14 June 2013

Slipknot by Gary Wolstenholme Thrash Hits

There are few words to describe a festival headline set from Slipknot. There’s a reason their 2009 set here at Download is often paired with the word “legendary”. And there’s absolutely no reason why their 2013 Friday night headline spot won’t be spoken about in exactly the same terms in years to come – the Iowans are peerless.

As a spectacle, there are few bands capable of matching Slipknot. With Clown’s pneumatic drum riser, UV confetti snow and the band back in barcoded boiler suits, they’ve still got the looks to match their music.

Playing loads of songs from their self-titled album, they ensured that there was plenty of singing along. The likes of ‘Eyeless’, ‘Wait And Bleed’ and ‘Surfacing’ in the encore made this a classic setlist. Another classic Download set.

Paul Gray will always be remembered as an integral part of Slipknot’s history, but tonight the band showed that three years after his death, the sum is greater than its parts. The Slipknot juggernaut is just unstoppable.
