If You Buy One Thing This Week: Perigaea Antahkarana by Wolvserpent

We tried to do an email interview with Wolvserpent a few years ago (which fell through for a variety of reasons). It was just after they changed their name from Pussygutt, which while being a) memorable, and b) kind of funny if you say it out loud over and over again, didn’t quite convey the air of menace that their unholy mix of occult doom, spaced-out drone and blackened moodiness really deserved. Hence: the name change to Wolvserpent. They also got the attention of Relapse Records, who signed them up to release the band’s latest long-player – and out pick for If You Buy One thing This Week – Perigaea Antahkarana.

We’re bloody glad that Relapse have gotten behind the duo, because it’ll hopefully mean their long-form experiments in audio-unease get spread out to a wider audience than the core group of internet metal nerds who lap this stuff up. It’s a worrying, keep-you-on-edge-throughout kind of record, and just the kind of gem that will probably get overlooked come the end of the year due to higher profile releases in the small-pond that this kind of music finds itself fighting for space within. Perigaea Antahkarana is definitely deserving of your attention though, which is why we’ve made it our pick for If You Buy One Thing This Week.
