Babymetal (stylized BABYMETAL) is a Japanese idol group trio that was initially formed in 2010 as a subunit of the female idol group Sakura Gakuin (さくら学院). Their concept is a fusion of idol, pop, and Metal.

The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto 中元すず香 (aka Su-Metal), Moa Kikuchi 菊地最愛 (aka Moametal) and Yui Mizuno 水野由結 (aka Yuimetal). The three girls and their group are managed by the Amuse talent agency.

They first appeared on the debut Sakura Gakuin album Read more on Last.fm

Oh it’s been away for a while, but Sonisphere Festival has returned to the UK and is less than one whole week away. We cannot wait. We are excited. Cod Sperm Sacs and BabyMetal: Adam Graham from FACT is our man in Japan

Here are two entirely unrelated pieces of information. Our developer, Will, went to Japan earlier this year and brought back a book of photos of women licking doorknobs. Our friend, Adam Graham, plays in the band FACT as the “token white guy” (his words, not ours). What’s our framework for this? Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first instalment of what may or may not become a semi-regular column about the weird world of metal in Japan, popping up unexpectedly amongst the hallowed electronic pages of Thrash Hits, like cod sperm sacs amidst an otherwise harmless array of bar snacks (this happened).
