Behemoth

Behemoth image provided by Last.fm Biography from Last.fm

There are multiple artists with this name:

1) Behemoth is a Polish black metal band from Gdańsk. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground, alongside bands such as Vader, Decapitated, Vesania and Hate. Over the years, Behemoth moved from traditional black metal into blackened death metal. Recent albums have moved back toward a sound which focuses more of black metal but continues to include influences from death metal, as well as other metal styles. Read more on Last.fm

Sunday Slaylist: Download Festival 2014 – the bands you know

June 1st, 2014

Download 2014 Bands You Know Thrash Hits

In two weeks time, we will be at Download Festival 2014. Still the single biggest weekend in the UK rock calendar, once again around about 100,000 rock fans will descend upon Donington Park for three days of music, drinking, debauchery, and casual sexism. To get us in the mood for the first three of those things (let’s hope there’s a lot less of the fourth this year, right guys?), the next two Sunday Slaylists are all about the line-up to this year’s festival.

This week: The big guns. The heavy hitters. The bands you know.

Live: Behemoth @ London Kentish Town Forum – 10 February 2014

February 14th, 2014

Behemoth at Bloodstock Open Air 2012 by Gary Wolstenholme (because we don't have a London gig shot, OBVS)

With their new album The Satanist only just released (and already getting plenty of plaudits), Behemoth came to London this week to headline a show on top of a stacked bill of bands to remind people why it’s already being touted as an early contender for one of the albums of the year. Okay, technically it was a co-headline with Cradle of Filth, but there was no argument over who was going on last. Cheryl Carter hit the Kentish Town Forum early doors to catch the whole show. Well, nearly the whole show.

6 things we learnt while watching Behemoth in London:

If you’re setting out to write a record with such an obviously blasphemous message, then you better have the balls and knowledge to back it up. Behemoth have both in deliciously heathen spades and The Satanist swirls with a current of dark, deep, fiery understanding of the underworld and its many denizens.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 010: Bloodstock Open Air 2012 REVIEWED

August 20th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

With Bloodstock Open Air 2012 now over, Hugh Platt and Tom Dare have reconvened in the studio to look back at the highs and lows of Thrash Hits’ Bloodstock experience this year – talking about our high and lows, the winners and losers, and just what Tom was doing with a Hairy Helmet and an Old Growler on the Friday night.

We also took time out to see what nonsense MegaDave has been spouting this week, to discuss Peter Dolving’s revelations about what really went on with his split from The Haunted earlier this year, as well as a check-up on the situation with Baroness, who suffered a truly awful bus crash last week. Get well soon, guys.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 009: Bloodstock Open Air 2012 Preview

August 7th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

With Bloodstock Open Air 2012 mere days away, Hugh invited Thrash Hits’ in-house black metal afficionado, Tom Dare, into the studio to break down who we think will be the big hits and misses of the UK’s trvest, kvltest, outdoor Summer festival. We also gave props out to Randy Blythe showing more class in his statement after being released from prison than 90% of the shoddy reporting surrounding his arrest, as well giving a break down of the four bands playing Thrash Hits Presents…no.3 at the Old Blue Last in November.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 005: The Randy Blythe Situation

July 5th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz is once again absent (his jetsetter lifestyle means he’s off in Berlin to catch Pearl Jam), so this week Hugh is once again joined by Tom Dare, and this week by another Tom from the Thrash Hits writers roster – Tom Doyle. Yes, he’s the Tom Doyle that Lower In Atlantis threatened at headbutt that time. No, he’s not the Tom Doyle who’s a member of Don Broco.

This week’s topics of conversation include recent gigs by Evile, Decapitated and *shels, but mostly we just talk about the Randy Blythe/manslaughter situation that has gotten most of the metal internet up in arms one way or the other over the last 7 days.

Interview: “Nergal is my legal name too” – Nergal from Behemoth discusses Bloodstock, surviving leukaemia, and *becoming* his stage name

June 27th, 2012

Adam Darski Nergal Behemoth 2011 Thrash Hits

It’s been a wild 18 months for Adam “Nergal” Darski – not only has the Behemoth frontman survived leukaemia, but he’s written an autobiography covering the last 20 years of his life leading the most controversial band in Poland, and is just now getting set for the band’s biggest UK show to date – headlining the Friday night of Bloodstock Open Air 2012. We caught up with him outside a pub in West London to chew the fat with one of metal most intriguing frontmen.
